GHRP-2, also called pralmorelin in the literature, is a synthetic hexapeptide of six amino acids. Like GHRP-6 it passes itself off as ghrelin and binds the GHS receptor, prompting growth hormone release in research. The difference lies in the balance: a firm growth hormone response with a markedly smaller appetite effect than GHRP-6. In Japan it was used under the name pralmorelin as a diagnostic test of growth hormone function. Why GHRP-2 stands out in its family
GHRP-2 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-2) is a synthetic hexapeptide that prompts the release of growth hormone in research. It is not growth hormone itself, but a signalling substance: it binds to the GHS receptor, the same receptor on which the hormone ghrelin acts, and thereby prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone. GHRP-2 is known as one of the more potent substances in this family, with a strong and reliable growth-hormone response.
The ghrelin receptor as the way in
GHRP-2 is a ghrelin mimetic: it mimics the action of ghrelin and binds to the GHS receptor (growth hormone secretagogue receptor) in the pituitary and hypothalamus. There it sends a pulse that prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone. In research, GHRP-2 stands out for a strong, predictable growth-hormone response, one of the reasons it has also been studied as a diagnostic substance. Six amino acids, three generations of GHRPs
GHRP-2 belongs to the growth hormone secretagogues, together with GHRP-6 and ipamorelin. What sets GHRP-2 apart is the combination of a strong growth-hormone response with little appetite effect, where GHRP-6 is known as the "hunger variant". Ipamorelin is the most selective of the three and barely affects appetite, cortisol or prolactin; GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 do. In terms of profile, GHRP-2 sits between the two: strong on growth hormone and with less hunger than GHRP-6, but less selective than ipamorelin. Pralmorelin: once a diagnostic test
GHRP-2 has a second name you will come across in the scientific literature: pralmorelin (developmental code KP-102). Under that name, GHRP-2 was registered and used in Japan as a diagnostic test, a short, strong growth-hormone stimulus used to assess whether the pituitary responds well. That also explains why GHRP-2 is known in research for its reliable response. Outside that specific diagnostic context, GHRP-2 is not an approved medicine.
Which reactions are reported?
In the research literature, GHRP-2 is described with effects related to its action on the growth-hormone route. Unlike GHRP-6, the increase in appetite is limited, but GHRP-2 can cause fluid retention (oedema) and a temporary rise in cortisol and prolactin, in that it resembles GHRP-6 and differs from the more selective ipamorelin. In general it is described in the literature as well tolerated. These are observations from research, not data about laboratory use. Making it up and storing it
GHRP-2 is supplied as a lyophilised powder in a vial. For research it is mixed with bacteriostatic water; BasePurity gives no dosing or administration advice. Store the unopened vial dry, dark and cool. After mixing, the solution goes in the fridge (2–8 °C), protected from light, and is used within a short time; for longer storage the unopened vial can go in the freezer.
